Vipers lend a hand at Vernon’s Terry Fox Run

The Vernon Vipers were out in force at the annual Terry Fox Run at Coldstream Elementary School on Sunday, helping out and taking part in the 5km, 8km and 10km runs.

The Vipers got up early and were amongst the first volunteers to show up at the event, lending a hand with registration, t-shirt sales, and snack preparations and at the tattoo and water stations.

The run brought in 546 volunteers and participants – up almost 200 from last year -and raised nearly $10,000.00.

“The Vipers and other volunteers are so important to our success and I appreciated each one of them and their efforts,” event organizer Heather Acob said.

The star of the day was Vipers forward John Digness, who ran the 10km route in about 41 minutes. He was happy to take part in such a important event and was determined to finish strong. Many other Vipers took part in the 5km route while Steve Tresierra took part in the 8km run.

It was another successful year for the organizers of the event and the Vipers look forward to taking part again next year.

The Vipers have two games this coming weekend: a home game on Friday hosting the Westside Warriors and a road game on Saturday in Salmon Arm.

Friday's game at Wesbild Centre starts at 7pm and is sponsored by The Pantry Restaurant and presented by Vantage One. Another steak/chicken BBQ will be offered for $10 starting at 6pm and you can get your game night tickets all week at the Vipers Box Office or reserve by phone by calling 250-542-6022.
