Spruce Grove Saints forward Declan Waddick, Cranbrook Bucks goaltender Jason Tremblay and Chilliwack Chiefs forward Markuss Sieradzkis have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Declan Waddick (F) – Spruce Grove Saints
Waddick tied for the league lead in points last week with seven in two games, posting a line of three goals and four assists.
The Tilbury, Ont. product had a season-best four points on Friday night, scoring two goals and adding a pair of helpers in a 7-4 loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters. A night later, Waddick picked up three points on a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the West Kelowna Warriors. The 2005-born forward was in on all seven of his team’s goals last week.
Waddick is second in team scoring with 44 points in 43 games, while his 21 goals also rank second on the Saints.
2nd Star – Jason Tremblay (G) – Cranbrook Bucks
Tremblay won back-to-back starts over the weekend, stopping 50 of 51 shots to earn a .980 save percentage, a 0.50 goals-against average and one shutout.
The Bucks played two straight home games against the Vernon Vipers, who came into the weekend four points back of Cranbrook for the final playoff spot with two games in hand. Tremblay pitched a shutout for the second time this year on Friday night, stopping all 26 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory and was named first star of the game. He got his second start in as many nights on Saturday, allowing just one goal on 25 shots in a 4-1 win.
The 19-year-old owns a 9-12-2 record on the season with an .886 save percentage.
3rd Star – Markuss Sieradzkis (F) – Chilliwack Chiefs
Sieradzkis scored the most goals of any BCHL player last week, finding the twine five times in two games in a pair of Chiefs wins.
The Riga, Latvia native scored a season-best four goals on Friday night in a 7-3 triumph over the Surrey Eagles. Sieradzkis scored his first in the opening frame to stretch the home team’s lead to 2-0. With the game tied in the second, he gave Chilliwack the lead again before potting two insurance goals in the final stanza. He was named first star of the game. A night later, he scored a second period goal in a 7-6 overtime win over the division-leading Prince George Spruce Kings.
Since joining the Chiefs on Jan. 23, the 2006-born forward has averaged almost a goal per game, with 15 in 16 contests. He also has six assists to give himself 21 points on the year.
