Warriors’ Kelly, Gagne commit to Dalhousie University

Westside Warriors forwards Ron Kelly and Jordan Gagne have committed to attend Dalhousie University in the fall of 2009, Tigers men’s hockey head coach Pete Belliveau announced today.

Kelly and Gagne will be suiting up for the Tigers for the 2009/10 season.

Hailing from Lloydminster, AB, Kelly is a gritty 5-foot-11 centre who has played for the Warriors for the past three seasons. This season Kelly served as team captain and recorded 52 points in 67 games. Ron is best known for being strong on the boards and is expected to be a physical presence for the Tigers.

“I’m really looking forward to coming east for school and to play hockey,” says Kelly, who will enrol in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Engineering. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the school and the quality of university hockey in Atlantic Canada so I’m eager to get out there and get started. Getting to play with Jordan is a bonus – he’s a great player and we played very well together this year so it will be good to carry that forward.”

Gagne is a 6-foot, 175 pound forward from Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec. He was the team’s top goal scorer and eighth in the league this year, netting 35 goals and 54 points in 60 games played in the regular season and another trio of goals in six playoff games played in the 2008/09 season.

Jordan, is also looking forward to suiting up for the Tigers,

“I’m very excited to go to Dalhousie and be part of the hockey team,” says Gagne, who plans to pursue a degree in environmental engineering. “Coach Belliveau has a record of building winning teams and I know that’s what he’s trying to do at Dal and I want to be part of that.”

“The Tigers family is very happy about acquiring Jordan Gagne, a very offensive left winger who tallied 35 goals this season in a very strong Junior A League. Jordan will provide excellent speed with soft hands and his character will make us a tougher team to play. Ron is a center who plays the old fashioned, good old western style hockey which means he could lead our team in hits,” Coach Belliveau says.
