Warriors’ Reid returns for 2009/10 campaign

The Westside Warriors are pleased to announce that 2009 National Hockey League draft pick Cam Reid will be back with the Warriors for the 2009/10 B.C. Hockey League season.

Reid, who was selected in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft this past summer by the Nashville Predators, has had his NCAA Div. I scholarship deferred for one year. The 17 year-old was already committed to the University of New Hampshire when he was acquired by the Warriors at last year’s trade deadline.

It was expected he would head to university but deferring the scholarship will allow Reid to return for another year with the Warriors. Reid scored a point per game after joining the Warriors and was the team's highest scoring forward in the BCHL playoffs last season.

“I think we’ve been looking since I got here for a number one centre and Cam is certainly a guy that can fill that role,” said Yopyk. “He’s a well-established player and a high end kid.”

Team president Gary Gelinas says that Reid're return is good for the entire league.

“We’re excited to have Cam coming back,” said Gelinas, the Warriors general manager and president. “We’re going to be counting on Cam to be a leader, not only on our team but in the league. Any time you have an NHL draft pick on your team that’s exciting for the fans.”

The Warriors now have 13 players returning from last year’s team that won 37 games in the BCHL Interior conference. Westside kicks off its training camp this Thursday and plays its first exhibition game Sept. 1 prior to the BCHL season opener on Sept. 11 in Prince George. The Warriors home opener is Sept. 18 against Penticton.
