Bailey, Woznikoski to share co-captaincy in Westside

The Westside Warriors are pleased to announce that 20-year-old veterans Trevor Bailey and Joel Woznikoski have been named co-captains of the Warriors for the 2009-10 B.C. Hockey League season.

Bailey is a Winfield Minor Hockey product and is the team’s highest scoring returning player. He has been with the Warriors since the team’s first season and has become a fan favourite because of his work ethic and determination.

Woznikoski has also played all three seasons that the Warriors have been in Westside and also skated with the franchise in Langley before it moved to West Kelowna. Considered a heart and soul player, Woznikoski is a Surrey native.

“Our leadership this season is in very good hands,” said coach Darren Yopyk. “We are extremely fortunate to have both Trevor and Joel as our co-captains. Both are tremendous leaders on and off the ice. Both represent what the Westside Warriors organization embodies.”

Bailey will wear the 'C' when the Warriors wear their black jerseys while Woznikoski will wear the 'C' in the Warriors white jerseys.

The Warriors would also like to announce that play-by-play announcer Kevin Parnell has accepted a position with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets after spending three years as the voice of the Warriors.

“Kevin has been the voice of the Warriors since day one and the fans, community and parents have made a connection with him,” said Warriors general manager Gary Gelinas. “Kevin was great for our organization, did whatever it took to help promote the team and carry our message. We are all about moving people on and the opportunity for Kevin to join a first class organization in the Rockets and work and learn from the Hamiltons is a one that is going to help him in his career. We are excited for Kevin and wish him all the best. Kevin is a first class person a true professional and has become a good friend to all of the Warriors family.”

Finally, the Warriors are happy to announce its BCHL home opener will be a tribute to area firefighters on A Tribute to Hometown Heroes night Sept. 18. West Kelowna staff and volunteer firefighters will receive free tickets to the game and a fire truck will be on display for fans to meet the firefighters and take pictures.
