Stout secures NCAA future at RPI

OStout180Sidelined with an injury since late October, Owen Stout’s production through the early part of the season has still be enough to convince Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to offer him a scholarship.

Stout has produced 6-17-23 in 17 games but has not hit the ice with the Coquitlam Express since Oct. 23. He started the season with a flourish, authoring five points on opening night in an 8-7 win in Surrey. Stout has had six multiple-point games this season and remains second on the team in scoring.

At RPI, Stout will join an NCAA Div. I program that has produced past NHLers such as Adam Oates, Joe Juneau and Darren Puppa.

The Engineers program currently features BCHL alums Chase Perry, Evan Tironese, Jared Wilson, Will Reilly, Meirs Moore and Louie Nanne. Former BCHL player and coach Nolan Graham is an assistant coach at RPI.

Current BCHL players also committed to play for the Engineers are Surrey’s Cory Babichuk and Wenatchee’s Jacob Modry.

RPI competes in the NCAA’s ECAC Hockey conference along with Harvard, Quinnipiac, Princeton, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Brown, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Union and Colgate.
