Powell River Kings goaltender Derek Krall has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 10.
In two games over the weekend, the Nanaimo, B.C. native earned two wins, stopping 57 of 58 shots in the process, and finishing the week with a .983 save percentage and a 0.50 goal-against average, while also earning his first BCHL shutout.
On Friday, Krall stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced and was named first star in the Kings’ 2-1 victory over the West Kelowna Warriors. The 20-year-old was even better on Sunday, making 28 saves and again earning first-star honours in a 2-0 shutout win over the league-leading Coquitlam Express.
After starting the season with the Penticton Vees, Krall now has a record of 9-3-0 in 12 starts, split evenly between both teams. He owns a .907 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against average with one shutout.
