Alberni Valley Bulldogs goaltender Campbell Arnold, Penticton Vees forward Bradly Nadeau and Bulldogs forward Ethan Bono have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Campbell Arnold (G) – Alberni Valley Bulldogs
Arnold stopped 56 of the 59 shots he faced over two games last week, both wins by the Bulldogs, as they advanced to the Fred Page Cup Final for the first time in team history. He finished his week with a .949 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average.
The Nanaimo, B.C. product started his week by making 25 stops on 26 shots, including 13 in the second period alone, leading Alberni Valley to a 5-1 Game 3 win on the road over the Chilliwack Chiefs. The next night, Arnold was clutch again, stopping 31 shots in his team’s 3-2 victory to complete the series sweep.
Since taking over for injured starter Hobie Hedquist in Round 2, Arnold’s .928 save percentage is tied for the league lead, while his 2.04 goals-against average is second best.
2nd Star – Bradly Nadeau (F) – Penticton Vees
Nadeau led the league in scoring during the week with five points in three games after registering three goals and a pair of assists as the Vees moved on to the Fred Page Cup Final for the second year in a row.
In Tuesday’s Game 3 against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, the University of Maine commit potted a power play goal with just 59 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime in an eventual 3-2 Penticton win. The following night he was held off the scoresheet for the first time this postseason, but he bounced back in a major way in Game 5 on Friday, posting two goals and an assist as the Vees clinched the series. With the game 0-0 after one, Nadeau scored just six seconds into the middle frame, then scored his second 10 minutes later, leading Penticton to the 7-4 win.
The 18-year-old’s 30 points and 17 goals both lead the BCHL playoffs.
3rd Star – Ethan Bono (F) – Alberni Valley Bulldogs
Bono scored twice and added an assist in Alberni’s two victories last week, including the series winning goal in Game 4.
In Game 3 in Chilliwack on Tuesday night, the three-year BCHL veteran scored his second shorthanded goal of the postseason to cap off a three-goal first period in a game the Bulldogs went on to win 5-1. On Wednesday, with the game tied 2-2 late, Bono scored the winning goal with just 29 seconds to play, making it 3-2 and finishing the four-game sweep to help his team advance to the Fred Page Cup Final.
This postseason, Bono has eight goals, four assists and 12 points. His goals are second most on the team, while his point total is tied for fourth.
