BC MML All-Star rosters announced

BC Hockey announced today the rosters and coaching staffs for the 2009 Major Midget League All Star Game.

The All Star Game will be played Friday, February 20th at the Sungod Arena in North Delta with puck drop at 7 pm. A new component has been added to the game this year as a skills competition will be held during the first and second intermissions. The skills competition will consist of hardest shot, fastest skater, and a shootout challenge.

Forty players (12 defensemen, 24 forwards and four goaltenders) have been selected, with at least one (1) player representing each of the 11 Major Midget League teams. Players were chosen after being evaluated on their on-ice and off-ice performance by the All Star Game selection committee. The selected players have been divided into two teams (team white and team blue) for the All-Star Game. Vancouver North West Giants forward Dante Godihno was selected to the All Star Game, but is unable to participate due to injury.

The game will also be broadcast live this year by Delta Cable – Eastlink Communications. In addition to being broadcast locally, fans of the game can watch the webcast on both the BC Hockey website and Sportswave (www.sportswave.ca). Tune in at 6:45 pm on February 20 for pre-game interviews and an update on the game followed by puck drop at 7 pm.

The Major Midget League All Star Game has had a number of top players play in this game over the years. Colton Teubert and Evander Kane participated in the 2007 game and this past December they helped lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Jordan Weal and Brett Connolly played in the 2008 All Star Game and each played a key role on the Silver Medal winning Team Pacific at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
