BCHL Grad Anderson set for Hockey Hall of Fame

After a long wait, BC Hockey League graduate Glenn Anderson is finally set to join his peers in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Anderson, who once notched 62 goals and 131 points playing for the BCHL's Bellingham Blazers in 1977, will be inducted into the Hall tonight with Russian great Igor Larionov, longtime NHL linesman Ray Scapinello and late Western Hockey League president Ed Chynoweth.

The Vancouver, BC native twice surpassed the 50-goal mark and three times tallied more than 100 points over the course of a 16-year National Hockey League career. When he retired from professional hockey in 1997, Anderson had accumulated 1099 points in 1129 NHL games.

He hoisted the Stanley Cup on six occasions — five times with the Edmonton Oilers in 1984, '85, '87, '88 and '90 and later with the New York Rangers in 1994.

Anderson's legacy in the game is as a big-game performer. He scored 93 goals and added 121 assists in 225 postseason games, and was often the Oiler who scored the crucial goal with the game on the line. His gaudy playoff totals were even more apparent during his stay in Edmonton, where he talled 183 points in 164 games.

Tonight's ceremony can be seen live on the NHL Network at 4:30 PM and later on TSN (9:30 PM).

The British Columbia Hockey League, its 17 member teams and all of its staff would like to congratulate Glenn on another tremendous achievement in one of hockey's greatest careers.
