It was a long way to go to get back home again but well worth the journey for Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Colin Bernard.
The native of Stamford, Connecticut has committed to play for Sacred Heart University in Fairfield which is just about a half-hour drive away in his home state.
Bernard has enjoyed a fine first season in the BCHL, posting seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points which was good enough for second-most on the Chiefs blueline in the regular season. He’ll play one more campaign in the league before heading off to college.
Sacred Heart plays in the NCAA’s Div. I Atlantic Hockey Association where conference rivals are Army West Point, Bentley, AIC, Niagara, Canisius, Air Force, RIT, Robert Morris, Mercyhurst and Holy Cross.
Bernard is one of two current BCHLers committed to play for the Pioneers, along with Nanaimo’s Marcus Joseph.
Sacred Heart’s 2016-17 roster includes BCHL alums Spencer Graboski, Coltyn Hansen, Jason Cotton, Austin McIlmurray and Brett Magnus.
