Bighill skates with Silverbacks

In the middle of the CFL offseason, the league’s reigning Most Outstanding Defensive Player is soaking up all that his adopted home province has to offer while also giving back to communities across B.C.

Adam Bighill, linebacker for the B.C. Lions, who led the team with 117 tackles in 2015, arrived in Salmon Arm this week and wasted no time getting to know the area. (Bighill’s Twitter feed – http://twitter.com/bighill44 has all the visuals). He’ll perform the ceremonial puck drop Friday night in Salmon Arm, greet fans and sign autographs in addition to speaking to the Silverbacks players and other community groups. The 5-foot-10, 230-pounder even stepped out of his comfort zone a bit to test his skating legs, trying out a stick and puck for the first time in his life (https://twitter.com/Bighill44/status/688148890688737287)

It’s just a part of the Montesano, Wash. product’s tour of several communities where he is doing work and speaking on behalf of Making Faces, a Toronto-based charity that assists people born with facial differences. Bighill himself was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate.

“I want to show kids how I did everything I wanted to do despite any limitations people may have put on me from the day I was born,” said Bighill, 27. “For all young people, don’t let anyone determine what you can do… Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.”

Bighill will also be at the Chilliwack Chiefs game Saturday for more of the same.
