Borgiel earns second POW of 2019-20

Cowichan Valley Capitals goaltender Zach Borgiel has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29, the league announced Monday.

The Fort Gratiot, Mich. native won all three of his starts over the weekend, stopping 84 of the 89 shots he faced, finishing with a .944 save percentage and a 1.67 goals-against average.

On Friday, Borgiel stopped 32 of 33 shots as the Caps handed the Salmon Arm Silverbacks their first loss of the season. He was named first star of the game. The following night, he made another 25 saves in a 7-2 win over the Vernon Vipers. He wrapped up his stellar week with a 27-save performance in a 4-2 win over the Surrey Eagles.

Borgiel now leads the league with eight wins and has a .931 save percentage and a 2.12 goals-against average with one shutout.

This is the second time this month that the 19-year-old has been named Player of the Week.
