Buono named Subway Player of the Week

Merritt Centennials forward Christian Buono has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 22.

The 19-year-old from Burnaby, B.C. tallied five goals and one assist over the Cents’ four games last week.

After being held off the scoresheet in Wednesday’s loss to the Powell River Kings, Buono had a natural hat trick against the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday night to pace Merritt to a 6-2 win. The following night in a rematch with West Kelowna, Buono scored another goal in a 5-3 loss. He finished up his productive week with a goal and an assist in a 5-3 defeat against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Buono leads the Centennials in scoring with 30 points in 38 games, including seven goals and nine assists in 17 games since being acquired from Powell River in mid-November.
