Chilliwack Chief Relocation – Rumor vs Fact

Notice to Fans:

There have been many rumors surrounding the relocation of the Chilliwack Chiefs Hockey Club for the 2006/07 season.

As mentioned earlier any move, if approved, by the Board of Governors of the BCHL will not be “official” until the completion of a vote conducted during an extra ordinary conference call following the Feb 28th, 2006 application extension deadline.  The current home of the Chiefs, the Chilliwack Prospera Center will remain their address until approval for relocation is granted.

The BCHL Franchise Committee will receive and review the Relocation Request by the Chilliwack Chief Ownership Group and make a recommendation to the Board of Governors.  The Relocation Request must contain assurances that the arena will meet the BCHL minimum seating capacity of 1500 seats among other assurances.  Following receipt of the recommendation the league office will call for a conference call of all the governors where the presentation will be made, question/answers called and a vote taken.

In the meantime the Chilliwack Chief Ownership Group is exploring their opportunities and options with numerous communities, the likes of which include Abbotsford, Langley and Squamish.

The rest “as they say” are just rumors!

Yours truly,

John Grisdale

Commissioner of the BCHL
