Combs commits to Bemidji State

On perhaps the most impressive goalscoring run in recent BCHL memory, Charlie Combs also managed to squeeze in time last week for a commitment to an NCAA Div. I hockey program.

Combs, who has 11 goals in his past four games, has accepted an offer to play at Bemidji State University starting next season.

The native of St. Louis leads the BCHL with 24 goals on the season. He is second in the league in overall scoring with 35 points, trailing only teammate Brendan Harris. He had a streak of three consecutive hat tricks snapped recently when he was only able to manage two goals against Coquitlam on Saturday.

Combs joined the Wild partway through last season and has been a prolific offensive producer ever since. He has 39-24-63 in 46 BCHL games.

At Bemidji State, Combs will join a Beavers program that currently features BCHL alums Gerry, Leo and Myles Fitzgerald and Brett Beauvais. Combs’ teammate Harris is also committed to Bemidji State, as is Trail Smoke Eaters forward Ross Armour.

The Beavers play in the NCAA’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Other teams in the conference include Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Bowling Green, Alabama-Huntsville, Northern Michigan, Alaska, Ferris State, Alaska-Anchorage and Minnesota State.
