Desbiens does damage for Bentley

JDesbiens-BentleyNeck and neck in the standings with conference rival RIT, the Bentley University Falcons got a big boost from freshman and West Kelowna Warriors alum Jonathan Desbiens in last weekend’s road sweep of the Tigers.

Desbiens got the opening goal of the game in the series-opening 3-2 win at RIT and followed that the next night with a hat trick – the first on his NCAA career – in a 6-3 victory that drew the Falcons even with RIT in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

The four-goal weekend for Desbiens earned him the Atlantic Hockey rookie of the week honours.

The Montreal native now has 8-6-14 on the year in his freshman season and is on a personal five-game point streak.

With the Warriors over two seasons, Desbiens racked up 71 goals and 66 assists for 137 points in 112 career games. In last season’s run to the RBC Cup national title, Desbiens tied with teammate Kylar Hope to lead BCHL postseason scorers with 15 goals. His first-period goal in the national championship game proved to be the winner in a 4-0 Warriors triumph over the host Lloydminster Bobcats.
