Ghirardosi goal goes viral

If you’re a longtime fan of the BCHL, you’ve probably long since seen the highlight clip.

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Tyler Ghirardosi dips and dangles his way through the neutral zone, across the blueline and in on goal all while evading two Penticton Vees defenders and finishes in fine fashion going high to the blocker side.

The play had it all, as Ghirardosi exhibited creativity, skill and finish with a flourish with the water bottle popping high into the air as he added the insurance goal on the way to a 6-3 Smokies win in Game 4 to even the series 2-2.

Within minutes of the final horn sounding at Cominco Arena, the clip was going viral across Twitter. West Kelowna Warriors broadcaster Trevor Miller (@Miller_Lite00) probably gets credit for introducing the clip to the hockey world. His Twitter post Wednesday night has now been seen over 23,000 times.

Sure enough, mainstream media caught on as well.

The clip was shown on Global BC’s News Hour sports with Squire Barnes

It was picked up by TSN’s BarDown website, which shows all the best viral sports clips from around the world.

The goal was shown frame-by-frame with some excellent camera work by Trail Times sports editor Jim Bailey.

Also on Twitter, revered hockey insider Bob McKenzie got a hold of it as well, tagging his buddy and Trail native Ray Ferraro.

Perhaps owing to Ghirardosi’s last name, it was even featured on an Italian hockey website.
