Hawthorne takes BCHLPOW nod

Alberni Valley Bulldogs goalie John Hawthorne has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 31, the league announced Tuesday.

Hawthorne put in extra time in both games he played, backstopping the Bulldogs to an overtime win and a loss in OT as well. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound netminder made 33 saves in an 3-2 overtime loss to Powell River where he was named the game’s 3rd Star. He followed that with a 46-save effort and a 2nd Star honour in a 3-2 OT win the next night, also against Powell River.

The native of Chemainus, B.C. now has 10 wins to his credit on the season to go along with a .911 save percentage. He has made 35 saves or more in 10 games this season.
