Hunter, Nadeau, Bongo named BCHL 3 Stars of the Week

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Brady Hunter, Penticton Vees forward Josh Nadeau and Surrey Eagles forward Jake Bongo have been named the BCHL 3 Stars of the Week.

1st Star – Brady Hunter (F) – Trail Smoke Eaters

Hunter led all BCHL players in points this week with eight in three games and was also tops in goals with four.

On Wednesday, he scored the insurance goal late in the third period to seal a 7-4 Smokies win over the Cranbrook Bucks. On Friday against the Vernon Vipers, he scored twice and added an assist in a losing effort as Trail dropped a 5-3 decision on the road. The next night, Hunter notched a goal and three assists to register his first career four-point night in a 9-2 win over the Merritt Centennials.

Hunter now leads his team in scoring with 24 points in 17 games, which puts him in a tie for 12th league-wide. His 16 assists are tied for fifth most in the BCHL.

2nd Star – Josh Nadeau (F) – Penticton Vees

Nadeau piled up seven points in three games last week on three goals and four assists to lead the Vees to three straight victories and nine in a row overall.

The 18-year-old started his week with a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Wednesday. He followed that with another multi-point performance on Friday when he put up a goal and two assists in a 7-1 victory over the Cranbrook Bucks. Nadeau kept his streak of multiple points going on Saturday when he registered a goal and an assist in Penticton’s 5-3 win over the Wenatchee Wild. He was named first star of the game in all three contests.

Nadeau has now extended his point streak to nine games with 16 points over that stretch. After his big week, he has climbed into a tie for third in league scoring with 28 points in 19 games.

3rd Star – Jake Bongo (F) – Surrey Eagles

Bongo notched three goals and four assists for seven points in three games last week as the Eagles swept their three-game Island road trip.

The Ridgefield, Conn. native scored a goal and added two assists on Friday in the Eagles 7-2 win over the Victoria Grizzlies. On Saturday, Bongo registered one assist in his team’s 6-3 triumph over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. He finished his productive weekend with two goals and an assist, including the game-winner, in Surrey’s 4-1 win against the Nanaimo Clippers on Sunday afternoon and was named the game’s first star.

Bongo’s 21 points lead the Eagles in scoring and his 13 goals are also the most on the team.
