Trail Smoke Eaters forward Kent Johnson has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22, the league announced Monday.
The Port Moody, B.C. native had 10 points in his team’s four games this week.
Johnson started his week with a pair of assists in his team’s 5-2 loss to the Powell River Kings on Wednesday, then was held off the scoresheet on Friday in a 3-1 defeat in Wenatchee on Friday against the Wild.
He caught fire on Saturday, assisting on all five of Trail’s goals in their first win of the year, a 5-1 victory over the West Kelowna Warriors. He wrapped up his week with a two-goal, one-assist performance on Sunday in a 6-2 home win over the Victoria Grizzlies.
After his high-scoring week, Johnson has shot up the BCHL points leaderboard and is now one off the league lead with 11 in eight games. His eight assists are also tied for most in the BCHL.
