Vernon Vipers forward Cameron MacDonald, Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Adam Jeffery and Cranbrook Bucks forward Johnny Johnson have been named the BCHL’s 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Cameron MacDonald (F) – Vernon Vipers
The Vipers were the final team to make their Showcase debut last week, but MacDonald made sure the scouts took notice as he led all scorers at the event with five points in two games.
On Saturday night against the host Chilliwack Chiefs, the Surrey, B.C. native opened the scoring with a first-period goal and added an assist in the second period to lead the Vipers to a 4-1 victory. He was named the first star of the game.
Vernon had a quick turnaround as they played on Sunday morning against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, but MacDonald showed no signs of fatigue. The three-year BCHL veteran was in on all three Vipers goals, scoring once himself and adding a pair of assists, as they blanked their opponent 3-0 to finish with a perfect record at this year’s Showcase. He was named second star of the game.
Through five contests, MacDonald has 10 points, tying him for third in league scoring.
2nd Star – Adam Jeffery (F) – Cowichan Valley Capitals
Jeffery was the top goal scorer at the Showcase, leading all BCHL players with four markers in his team’s two games.
In the Caps first Showcase game on Saturday afternoon, the 20-year-old tied the game late in the second period against the Cranbrook Bucks and eventually got them within one late in the third as they dropped a back-and-forth affair 5-4. He was named second star of the game.
The following day, in the final game of the event, Jeffery notched another two goals, both in the third period, to seal Cowichan’s first win of the season, a 5-1 decision to the Merritt Centennials, and was named the game’s first star.
Those were his first four goals of the campaign and he now leads his team in that category.
3rd Star – Johnny Johnson (F) – Cranbrook Bucks
Johnson had three goals and one assist for the Bucks and led the team in scoring at the BCHL Showcase with four points.
Johnson scored once on Friday afternoon in his team’s first game of the event, temporarily giving them a one-goal lead in a game they would eventually drop 5-3 to the Powell River Kings.
He followed up that performance the next day with a two-goal, one-assist output in the Bucks 5-4 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. In that game, he assisted on the opening goal and added two more for himself in the third period, including the eventual game winner. That showing earned him the game’s third star and the BCHL Showcase Player of the Day.
