Surrey Eagles goaltender Hayden Missler has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 16, the league announced Monday.
Missler stopped 71 of the 74 shots he faced in a pair of games on the road against the Prince George Spruce Kings over the weekend. He earned one win, finished with a save percentage of .959 and a 1.51 goals-against average.
On Friday night, the Wainwright, Alta. native made 32 saves, but was beaten late in the third period for the game-winning goal in a 2-1 loss to the Spruce Kings. He was named second star of the game. The following night, Missler turned in a heroic performance as the Eagles were outshout 40-9, including 16 shots against in the third period, but he managed to only let one get by him as the Eagles held on for a 2-1 win. He was named the game’s first star.
This season, the 18-year-old has played games with the West Kelowna Warriors, Powell River Kings and the Eagles and has a record of 5-8-0. He is ranked in the top-10 in the BCHL in save percentage (.906) as well as goals-against average (2.90).
