In this week’s NCAA Roundup, presented by CWENCH Hydration, we highlight six league alumni who recently earned weekly conference awards in Division I college hockey.
Hockey East Player of the Week
Harrison Scott (F) – Senior – University of Maine (Wenatchee Wild)
Scott led Hockey East in face-off wins (27), points (five) and assists (five) last week as he helped Maine to a sweep of Quinnipiac. He assisted on the game-winning goal on both nights, including the overtime-winner on Saturday, while also firing seven shots on goal.
The San Jose, Calif. product played the 2019-20 season in the BCHL with the Wenatchee Wild. That year, he totaled 15 goals, 13 assists and 28 points in 48 regular-season games.
Hockey East co-Goaltender of the Week
Zachary Borgiel – Graduate – Providence College (Cowichan Valley Capitals)
Borgiel stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced, earning a win in his debut as a Friar in a 2-1 triumph on Saturday against Arizona State. He finished the game with a .969 save percentage.
He shared the weekly honour with his Providence teammate Philip Svedeback.
The 24-year-old played the 2019-20 season with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and finished with the fourth-best save percentage in the BCHL with a mark of .923. His 2.55 goals-against average was the fifth-lowest in the league and his four shutouts tied him for third among BCHL goalies. He also played the most minutes of any netminder that season.
NCHC Forward of the Week
Carter King – Senior – University of Denver (Surrey Eagles)
King powered Denver to a pair of 5-2 wins over Northeastern with a five-point series, tying for the NCHC lead in points over the weekend. The Denver captain also led all NCHC skaters with three goals last week, tallying both nights to stretch his goal-scoring streak to three games.
The Calgary, Alta. native suited up for the Surrey Eagles for the 2019-20 campaign where he notched 18 goals, 15 assists and 33 points in 58 games.
Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week
Trent Wilson (F) – Freshman – Robert Morris University (Surrey Eagles/West Kelowna Warriors)
Wilson scored two goals and dished out an assist for three points in RMU’s two-game sweep of Miami. In Thursday’s season opener, Wilson scored the first two goals of the season for the Colonials. He then added an assist on their third goal of the year. The Tsawwassen, B.C. native leads all RMU rookies in points with three through two games.
The 2004-born forward spent three seasons in the BCHL. He played the first two with the Surrey Eagles, then had a breakout campaign in 2023-24 with the West Kelowna Warriors where he scored 20 goals and added 15 assists for 35 points in 54 games. He had another 15 points in 12 contests during the 2024 playoffs.
ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week
Mason Waite (D) – Senior – St. Lawrence University (Prince George Spruce Kings)
Waite notched a goal and three assists in the Saints 8-0 victory over Ferris State last week. The Saints captain also added four blocked shots and seven shots across two games against the Bulldogs .
Waite played two seasons with the Prince George Spruce Kings from 2019 to 2021 and acted as team captain his final year in the BCHL. Over his stint in the league, he produced 48 points in 68 contests.
Big Ten 3rd Star of the Week
Logan Terness (G) – Senior – Ohio State University (Trail Smoke Eaters)
Terness turned away 37 of 38 shots in Ohio Stateโs 2-1 overtime win over Wisconsin on Friday. His lone goal allowed was on the power play early in the first period. He then kept the Badgers off the board for the final 61:08 of the game. Terness made 17 saves in the second period, 13 saves in the third and another three in overtime.
He played two seasons with the Trail Smoke Eaters from 2019 to 2021. In his first year in the league, he posted a 27-10-4 record with a .932 save percentage, good enough for third best in the BCHL. He was voted as the leagueโs Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the season.
