NCAA Roundup: 2024-25 Year-End Award Winners

In this special edition of the NCAA Roundup, presented by CWENCH Hydration, we highlight a group of BCHL alumni who were recognized with year-end awards in their respective conferences.

ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Year

Ethan Langenegger – Graduate – Clarkson University (Salmon Arm Silverbacks)

Langenegger joined the Golden Knights this year as a graduate student transfer and played a critical role in Clarkson’s success. The Kamloops, B.C. native appeared in 20 contests posting a 13-6-1 record with a .913 save percentage (third in ECAC) and a 2.23 goals-against average (fourth in ECAC).

The 2000-born netminder played two seasons with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks from 2018 to 2020, appearing in 80 games. In his final year with the team, he posted a record of 23-15-3, a .908 save percentage, a 2.79 goals-against average and three shutouts.

ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenceman

Trey Taylor – Junior – Clarkson University (Vernon Vipers)

Taylor wins this award for the second year in a row. As team captain, he had an impactful season for the Golden Knights, scoring six goals and adding 12 assists. He ended the season as Clarkson’s top scoring defenceman, with half of his goals coming on the power play. In front of the net, he ended the season sixth in the conference with 38 blocked shots.

Taylor played three seasons with the Vernon Vipers from 2018 to 2021, suiting up for 125 regular-season games and another 26 in the playoffs.

At the conclusion of his college season, the 23-year-old signed an NHL contract with the Dallas Stars.

Hockey East Best Defensive Forward & Most Sportsmanlike Player

Hudson Schandor – Graduate – University of Connecticut (Salmon Arm/Surrey)

Schandor was honoured with the two awards following his fifth season at UConn. In 2024-25, the North Vancouver, B.C. product led the Huskies with 30 assists and finished third in team scoring with 40 points in 35 games, all while only recording 12 minutes in penalties. His strong season helped UConn to their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Schandor played three seasons in the BCHL, the first two for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and his final year with the Surrey Eagles. Over his junior career, he totaled 114 points in 147 regular-season games. He finished as the BCHL’s seventh leading scorer his final year in the league with 61 points in 56 contests.

NCHC Defensive Forward of the Year

Tim Washe – Graduate – Western Michigan University (Nanaimo Clippers)

Washe led the NCHC with a faceoff win percentage of 64.5 per cent in the regular season, racking up 389 wins in the dot. His 61.4 percent clip in conference play this season was also tops. Washe blocked 24 shots and posted a plus-20 rating overall, good enough for second among NCHC forwards. His seven game-winning goals this year tie for third in the NCAA, while he has tallied 34 points in 38 games.

The Clarkston, Mich. native played the 2019-20 season with the Nanaimo Clippers where he totaled 10 goals, nine assists and 19 points in 55 games.

Atlantic Hockey Best Defensive Forward (co-winner)

Ethan Leyh – Graduate – Bentley University (Langley Rivermen)

Leyh ended the regular season as Bentley’s leading scorer with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points. In conference play, he averaged 1.2 points per game with 30 points in 25 Atlantic Hockey games, good enough for fifth in the conference. Leyh was also strong in the faceoff circle, winning 301 of 524 faceoffs (57.4 win percentage) in conference play.

The 2001-born forward played two seasons in the BCHL from 2017 to 2019 with the Langley Rivermen. He was his team’s leading scorer his final year in the league, piling up 43 points in 51 regular-season games.

Leyh is the co-winner of this award with Air Force Academy senior forward Austin Schwartz. His Bentley team is preparing for their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament after winning the Atlantic Hockey championship.
