Prince George Spruce Kings forward Nicholas Poisson has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 19, the league announced Monday.
Poisson had a goal in all six games for the Spruce Kings in their run to the National Junior A Championship final, including two on the power play and one game winner.
The 17-year-old scored the fifth goal in a 5-1 win over the Oakville Blades last Sunday in Prince George’s tournament opener, then scored the eventual game-winner the following night in a 4-0 triumph over the Ottawa Junior Senators. On Wednesday, Poisson scored the fifth goal to put the game out of reach in a 5-1 win against the Portage Terriers, then he scored the lone goal in a 3-1 loss the next night to the Brooks Bandits and was named the Spruce Kings’ player of the game.
In the semifinal on Saturday, the Vancouver native stayed hot by scoring PG’s opening goal in a 2-1 win over Oakville. On Sunday in the championship game, Poisson started the comeback against Brooks by scoring the goal to make it 4-2 in the third, but the Spruce Kings eventually lost 4-3.
Poisson led the tournament in goals with six and finished tied for second in points with six as well.
