After earning his first Player of the Week honour last week, Newhook was even better this week, putting up nine points in three home games, including a hat trick on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday, Newhook had a goal and two assists, all in the second period, in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals and was named the game’s second star. On Saturday, the 18-year-old from St. John’s, N.F. opened the scoring for Victoria and later added an assist in a 4-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild. On Sunday, for the second time in a week, Newhook had a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and also added a helper in the Grizzlies 4-1 win over the Merritt Centennials. He was named the game’s first star.
In three games this week, Newhook had a point on nine of the Grizzlies 12 goals scored.
Newhook becomes the first back-to-back Player of the Week winner this year and only the third player to win it for a second time. After his big week, the potential first-rounder at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft has opened up a 17-point lead in the BCHL scoring race with 90 points in 49 games. His 34 goals are tied for second-most in the league.
