Poisson’s finals heroics earn him POW nod

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ben Poisson has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 21, the league announced Monday.

The Spruce Kings captain scored both game-winning goals last week as Prince George won Games 3 and 4 over the Vernon Vipers to capture their first ever Fred Page Cup title.

In Game 3 on Tuesday, Poisson assisted on his younger brother Nicholas’ goal early in the third period, then scored the winner with 7:53 to go in overtime to give his team a 4-3 win and a commanding 3-0 series lead. The following night in Game 4, Poisson’s power-play goal early in the second period ended up being the winner again as the Spruce Kings held on for a 3-1 win, capturing the Fred Page Cup in a 4-0 sweep.

Poisson’s 13 playoff goals were the most in the league this year and his 21 points led his team and tied him for third overall in the BCHL.
