Powell River grad Huisman commits to TRU Wolf Pack for 2010/11

The British Columbia Hockey League's Powell River Kings are pleased to announce that graduated defenceman Darcy Huisman has committed to Thompson Rivers University and will suit up for the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League's Wolf Pack for the 2010/11 season.

Huisman helped the Kings to back-to-back Coastal Conference championships in 2009 and 2010, scoring nine goals and 58 points in 74 regular season games. He added 14 points in 41 postseason games in Powell River. The 21-year old also spent a year with the Prince George Spruce Kings, netting 20 points in 40 games during the 2006/07 season.

The Smithers, B.C. product joins a number of fellow BCHL grads on the Wolf Pack roster, including 2010 recruits Zac Rasmussen, Richie Virtanen and Lucas Daoust.

“I am excited about returning to school and beginning work on my degree,” Huisman says. “The last few years I played junior hockey and focused on that and volunteer work. Now it is time for me to get on with preparing for the rest of my life and I think I'll be able to manage the load of both hockey and school.”

TRU head coach Lorne Cumming expects Huisman to bring skill and character to the Thompson River hockey program.

“My interest in Darcy was that clearly he was a good player, but more importantly the fact that everyone spoke very highly of him as a young man.”
