Rogers together with Shaw and the BC Hockey League have announced the five winners of the BCHL Scholarship Program presented by Rogers together with Shaw for the 2022-23 season.
After gathering submissions during the regular season, the BCHL and Rogers together with Shaw have selected five players who will receive a $2,000 scholarship award to attend a Canadian post-secondary institution.
This year’s winners are:
Jordan Fairlie (Prince George Spruce Kings)
Jordan Hendry (Trail Smoke Eaters)
Dylan Hewlett (Powell River Kings)
Nic Porchetta (West Kelowna Warriors)
Ayden Third (Vernon Vipers)
The scholarship program is designed to provide graduating BCHL players with financial support to use in the next step of their hockey and academic careers.
The winners were selected based on their academic track record, their stated future career and education goals and their time spent in the BCHL.
“Education has always been a key focus for our league and this scholarship program is a great way to reward our athletes that excel in the classroom, while giving them the financial support needed to continue playing hockey at a Canadian post-secondary school,” said BCHL Commissioner Steven Cocker. “Thank you to our Founding Partners at Rogers together with Shaw for supporting this initiative the past four seasons.”
Fairlie will attend the University of Toronto next year, Hendry will head to the University of Waterloo, Hewlett is committed to Simon Fraser University, Porchetta is enlisted at Vancouver Island University and Third will take classes at the University of Regina.
Through the first four years of their partnership, Rogers together with Shaw and the BCHL have awarded a total of $40,000 in scholarship funds to 20 different graduating players from the league.
