Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Jack Sampson has announced his commitment to the Marian University Sabres for the 2019-20 season.
The 20-year-old joined the Silverbacks late in the season, but had an immediate impact on the team, racking up three goals and five assists for eight points over the final 14 games of the season and also contributing a goal and an assist in five playoff games. Sampson, 20, started the season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) playing for the Lone Star Brahmas and the Corpus Christie IceRays before being acquired by Salmon Arm midseason.
Marian University is located in Fond du Lac, Wisc. and plays out of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The ACHA is a non-profit that is the national governing body of varsity and club level college hockey in the United States, featuring three divisions of teams.
Although Sampson was only there for a short time, Salmon Arm head coach Scott Atkinson knows Marian is getting a solid addition to their lineup.
“Jack’s character, leadership and hockey skill will benefit the Sabres lineup,” said Atkinson in a release from the Silverbacks. “We’d like to thank Jack for the contributions he made to our team last season and wish him every success in the future.”
The Sabres have seen several former BCHL players join their ranks in recent years. Last year’s squad featured three alums, including former Trail Smoke Eaters Troy Ring and Blaine Caton and Nanaimo Clippers grad Parker Colley.
