Thornton named High School Player of the Month

Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Hudson Thornton has been named the BCHL High School Player of the Month for January.

This award is for players 18-years-old or younger who are attending high school full time and is based on in-class and on-ice performance.

The 16-year-old playing in his hometown of Chilliwack picked up three goals and four assists for seven points in 10 games last month, third among all rookie defencemen and by far his most productive month of the season. Thornton went on a four-game point streak in January, which included two multi-point efforts.

Thornton currently attends Sardis Secondary School in Chilliwack and has received impressive marks in all of his classes, including 93 per cent in Social Sciences 10, 92 per cent in Geography and 91 per cent in English 10. He is also currently taking challenging classes like Pre-Calculus 11, English 11 and Political Studies 12.

The Minnesota-Duluth commit has 15 points in 46 games this season, tied for 13th in points among rookie defencemen.
