Vees rookie McClure commits to Bulldogs

The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce forward Brad McClure has committed to the Bulldogs of Ferris State University for the 2014-15 season.

McClure is currently in his first season with the Vees, and has four goals and five points in 10 games.  Prior to joining the Vees, 19-year-old McClure spent  three seasons playing for his hometown Stratford Cullitons of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. McClure led the Cullitons in scoring last season, fashioning 78 points in 51 games, including finishing second in league goal-scoring with 45 tallies. In 144 career games in the GOJHL, McClure amassed 95 goals and 162 points.

"We are fortunate to be able to develop Brad for the next two seasons for a great program in Ferris State," said Vees head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson. "Brad has a dynamic skill set and prolific track record of producing offensively. Ferris is getting a quality player and individual.”

The Bulldogs play in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and are based out of Big Rapids, Michigan. The 2012 campaign was a memorable one for the program as the team captured its second-ever CCHA regular season championship and finished with an overall record of 26-12-5 record, highlighted by a 14-game unbeaten streak. The Bulldogs advanced all the way to the NCAA Frozen Four in April, where they lost to Boston College. It was the best postseason finish in school history.

The Bulldogs are coached by Bob Daniels who is entering his 20th season as Ferris State Head Coach. In 2012 Daniels took home both the NCAA and CCHA Coach of the Year honours.

Alumni to play for the Bulldogs include Travis Ouellette, who is entering his senior season, and John DePourcq who is in the Ferris State Hall of Fame. McClure is the twelfth Vee to secure a NCAA scholarship on this year’s roster.
