Vipers bite back to even series with Vees

Brendan Persley capped a three-point evening with his second goal of the night in the third period of a 5-2 win for the Vernon Vipers that evened the Interior Division finals 2-2 with the Penticton Vees.

A night after surrendering a lead they held after 40 minutes, Vernon was sound in the final frame increasing their 3-2 edge after two into the three-goal win they earned. Colton Sparrow and Persley, into an empty net, had the finishing touches.

Penticton led the game 2-1 in the second on a Riley Alferd tally but Riley Guenther and Michael McNicholas replied for the Vipers to put them up one going to the third. Austin Smith made 27 saves for the win.

Canon Pieper's goal 31 seconds into the third period was the winner for the Coquitlam Express in a 5-3 win over the Langley Rivermen that gives the Express a 3-1 lead in the Mainland Division finals. Langley led 2-1 after one on goals by Chris Forney and Matt Ustaski but Coquitlam got goals from Marc Biega and Ryan Rosenthal in the second and it was 3-3 after two. Biega's second of the game was the insurance on the power play for Coquitlam. Gordie Defiel made 31 saves for the Express.

Kurt Keats, Stephen Hiff and Matt Scarth had two goals each for the Powell River Kings in an 8-3 win over the Victoria Grizzlies that ties the Island Division finals up 2-2.

Victoria tied the game at two in the second with goals from Leo Fitzgerald and Brandon Egli after Luke Nogard and JJ Coleshaw had put the Kings ahead. Keats, Hiff and Scarth each got their first goals late in the second and each tallied in the third to make for a five-goal Kings edge to finish the game.

Each team fired 38 shots on goal with Jonah Imoo making 35 saves to earn the victory in the Kings crease.
