Powell River Kings forward Mitchell Williams has paid his dues in the BCHL. The 20-year old started his career by playing a handful of games for the Penticton Vees, Surrey Eagles and Nanaimo Clippers before finding a home last year in Powell River. Since joining the team, Williams has been an integral part of the Kings attack, finishing this year with the best offensive production of his career. This has led to him securing his future for next season as he has committed to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks for the 2019-20 season.
This year, Williams finished sixth in team scoring with 16 goals, 21 assist and 37 points in 53 regular-season games. He’s also gotten off to a strong start in the playoffs with three goals and four points in Powell River’s five-game first-round victory over Nanaimo. The Prince George native has played in 109 regular-season games over his career, totaling 58 points.
NAIT is a part of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), competing against the University of Alberta Augustana, Briercrest College, Concordia University of Edmonton, MacEwan University, Portage College, Red Deer College and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
This past season, NAIT finished at the top of the ACAC standings with a record of 20-7-0-1 and will take on SAIT in a best-of-three conference semifinals this weekend.
Williams is the first player to commit to an ACAC program this year.
