Kings goaltender Maguire secures scholarship to BU

The Powell River Kings are proud to announce that goalie Sean Maguire has committed to play for the Boston University Terriers. A homegrown Powell River talent, Sean will be attending Boston University in September of 2012.

Maguire joined the green and gold at the beginning of the 2010-2011 season. Maguire consistently improved and developed as a goaltender over the course of the past two seasons with his most recent highlight being a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge in Langley where he earned the  Goaltender of the Tournament award.

Kings head coach and general manager Kent Lewis, who also coached Maguire and Team Canada West at the WJAC, is proud of Maguire.

"This year, he has proven to be one of the elite goaltenders and showcased at the WJAC," said Lewis. "Sean’s strengths are his character, his willingness to compete and athleticism. Boston University is an excellent school academically and has one of the best hockey programs in the NCAA. We are very proud of Sean for this great achievement.”

Maguire says he chose the Boston University Terriers for a number of reasons.

“I choose Boston University because I always wanted to go to school in Boston and Boston University definitely has the best program in the area," he said. “The hockey program has top-notch facilities, the coaching staff is incredible and I have heard nothing but amazing things about the program.”

Maguire will be pursuing a degree in Education.
