Vees rookie DePourcq commits to University of Denver

The Penticton Vees Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Cody DePourcq has committed to the University of Denver Pioneers.

The Penticton native is in his first season with the Vees, recording three goals and 12 points in 26 games. Last season, DePourcq recorded

23 goals and 47 points with the Okanagan Hockey Academy Midget team.

“The Pioneers are getting one of the most courageous players I've ever coached," said Vees head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson. "I have had the pleasure of being involved with the development of Cody DePourcq over the past few seasons. Cody started as an (affiliate) player in his 15-year-old season and is now contributing to our strong start as one of the most exciting 16-year-olds in the BCHL.”

DePourcq's bloodlines run deep with the Vees; his father John, spent four years with the Penticton Knights in the mid 80’s, including winning a National Championship in 1986. The 5-foot-6 forward plays well above his stature, playing in a prominent role and is developing a quick reputation as one of the hardest working forwards in the BCHL.

Denver plays in the Western Colligate Hockey Association (WCHA) and has won seven WCHA Conference and NCAA Championships; the most recent in 2005. DePourcq, 16, joins Beau Bennett and Joey Laleggia as recent Vees who have suited up for the Pioneers.
