With the 2013-14 NHL season completed, the folks at College Hockey Inc. (www.collegehockeyinc.com) crunched the numbers and the results were record-highs for NCAA alumni in the NHL.
Here are some of the record-setting stats:
- There were 305 NCAA alums that played in the NHL this season
- Those 305 players represent 31 per cent of the NHL
- NCAA alums recorded 43 per cent of all hat tricks in the NHL in 2013-14
- 24 NCAA alumni goalies combined to post a highter saves percentage and lower goals-against average than the league average
- Almost half of the 305 NCAA alums played four years of college hockey
- 85 per cent of NCAA men's hockey players graduate college with a degree. Only fencing, gymnastics, skiing and lacrosse have higher grad rates.
