With the 2023-24 NCAA Division I hockey regular season set to begin this weekend, rosters are now final and there will again be a significant amount of BCHL alumni playing college hockey at the highest level.
This year, 404 former BCHL players cracked Division I rosters across the NCAA, which is the second-most in BCHL history.
Fast facts:
- The 404 BCHL alumni in the NCAA represents approximately 23 per cent of all Division I hockey players
- There is at least one BCHL alumnus on each of the 64 Division I programs
- Bentley University has the most BCHL representation with 16 alumni
- The defending national champion Quinnipiac University had 14 BCHL alumni on their roster last year (this year, there are nine)
- The overtime game-winning goal in last year’s national championship game was scored by BCHL alumnus Jacob Quillan (Penticton Vees – 2020-21)
- 24 of the BCHL alumni in the NCAA are also NHL draft picks (including 2023 first-rounders Matthew Wood and Bradly Nadeau)
- The league set a record of 411 alumni playing Division I hockey in 2022-23
