This week in the NCAA Roundup presented by Johnston Meier Insurance, two former BCHL players earned conference awards in college hockey.
ECAC Hockey Player of the Week
T.J. Friedmann – Senior – Quinnipiac University (Victoria Grizzlies)
Friedmann led all ECAC Hockey skaters in points last week, scoring twice and dishing out a pair of assists in Quinnipiac’s weekend sweep of Long Island University. He earned two assists in Friday’s 4-1 win before finding the back of the net twice, including the eventual game-winner, in a 5-0 win over the Sharks on Saturday. The Bobcats have now won five straight games and are unbeaten in their last 13.
The St. Louis, Mo. product played for the Victoria Grizzlies from 2016 to 2018, collecting 90 points in 96 regular-season games. In his final BCHL season, he finished top-20 in league scoring with 57 points in 58 contests.
Hockey East co-Rookie of the Week
Matt Crasa – Freshman – UMass-Lowell (Cowichan Valley Capitals)
Crasa led the River Hawks in scoring with four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in a sweep at Vermont. On Friday, the freshman dished out two helpers, including one on the power play and one on the game-winning tally. He returned to the ice Saturday to notch both goals for the River Hawks in a 2-1 victory. The rookie finished the weekend with a plus-three rating. He now sits second among all River Hawks in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 12 points.
The 20-year-old New York native played the 2019-20 campaign with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and led the team in goals with 25. He also finished third in team scoring with 44 points in 51 games.
