An Island Perspective with Dan Marshall

How we did.

All Island fans and indeed BCHL Fans had only one team to cheer for December 17th. Team West at the CJHL Prospects game took to the ice in Summerside, P.E.I. against Team East. Unfortunately, Team East prevailed 6-3 in the game.

The two Island Division representatives both made an impact on the game. Victoria goalie Alexandre Peck stopped 20 of 22 shots in just over 25 minutes of action and Nanaimo’s Zac Ashdown picked an assist on the third Team West goal. Also of note the Eagles Spencer Bennett scored a goal and was named third star and Curtis McKenzie had an assist to go along with one minor penalty. A total of 1037 people took in the game.

Quick hits.

A note on each island team heading into the Christmas Break.

  • At the time of this blog Victoria had won seven games in a row and opened up an 11-point lead on second-place Cowichan Valley.
  • Cowichan started the month of December with five consecutive wins and built up a three point cushion on Nanaimo for second place.
  • The Clippers are going the other direction right now, with three straight losses and only one win in the month of December. They are three points behind Cowichan for second place and play the Capitals on December 20th.
  • The Bulldogs broke a five-game losing streak on December 14th against Nanaimo to improve their record to 2-3-0-2 for the month. It’s not the type of record that will get them into the playoffs – but it’s step in the right direction.
