Bandits top Chiefs in WCC opener

WCC-story-insert180Despite allowing the opening goal of the game, the Brooks Bandits stormed back to top the Chillliwack Chiefs 5-2 in the first game of the 2017 Western Canada Cup presented by Sun Life Financial.

Anthony Vincent got the Chiefs on the board at 8:24 of the first even though the Chiefs were outshot 14-5 in the first period. In the second period, Brooks took the lead for good as they got three with Cale Makar, Arnaud Vachon and Josh McKechney doing the damage.

Nick Prkusic and Parker Foo scored 21 seconds apart in the third to put Brooks in full command. Connor McCarthy got a late one back for Chilliwack as the Chiefs showed some life in the final frame but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Chilliwack is next in action Monday when the face Manitoba’s Portage Terriers in a 7 p.m. faceoff. Brooks plays the host Penticton Vees Sunday night at 7 p.m.
