BCHL and Save-On-Foods announce partnership, player support program

The BC Hockey League (BCHL) and Save-On-Foods have announced a partnership for the 2020-21 season, which includes a support program designed to ease the financial burden on players and their families.

Save-On-Foods is contributing financial assistance that will benefit BCHL players by helping to reduce some of the travel and accommodation costs associated with the pod season and limiting the amount that families will have to take on.

Because no fans are permitted in the stands to watch games this year, it was announced back in the fall that players would pay fees to help fund a season, for this year only, due to a lack of team revenue from ticket sales and sponsorship.

Save-On-Foods will also be the title partner for the new Billet of the Week feature where the league will recognize one billet family per team throughout the season and Save-On-Foods will award the family with a gift card from their stores.

Save-On-Foods is a B.C.-based company with a long history of Going the Extra Mile for their customers and giving back to the communities where they do business.

“The objectives of Save-On-Foods align perfectly with what we look for in a partner for the BCHL,” said Dave Cannon, the league’s Executive Director, Business Development. “They were adamant about giving back to the community by providing financial relief to our players and their families, while also recognizing the hard work and sacrifice made by countless billet families across the league. We look forward to working with them on these initiatives throughout this season and building on them in the future.”

“We have been a proud member of many BCHL communities for decades and are thrilled to launch this new partnership to help support these young, talented athletes, their families and the dedicated local billet families who play a critical role in the success of this league,” said Save-On-Foods President, Darrell Jones. “Although this season looks a little different, our teams in communities across B.C. continue to proudly support the BCHL and the development of these athletes.”

In addition to the Player Support Program and the Billet of the Week, Save-On-Foods will also present the brand-new Must-See Moments video feature that BCHL fans will find on the league social media and website on most game nights during the season.
