Cassidy Bowes’ first BCHL goal proved to be the game-winner for the Penticton Vees in a 5-1 road win over the Chilliwack Chiefs in Game 2 that evens the BCHL Finals at 1-1.
Ryley Risling opened the scoring for the Vees in the first, scoring unassisted for his first of the postseason and Bowes, an affiliate player who dressed for just two regular-season games and has now been in three postseason contests, scored what would be the decisive tally at 13:11 of the opening frame.
In the second, Duncan Campbell made it 3-0 Penticton with Carver Watson replying to get the Chiefs on the board just 27 seconds later. But Watson’s goal would be the only puck to get by Mat Robson on the night as he made 33 saves for the win and 1st Star honours.
Penticton padded their lead in the third with Nic Jones scoring at 3;46 and Chris Klack tacking on an empty-netter to round out the scoring. Vees’ defencemen Gabe Bast and Griffin Mendel had two helpers apiece as did forward Grant Cruikshank.
Game 3 goes Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Penticton.
