BCHL grad Dalpe scores New Year’s Day goal for his first in the NHL

Former Penticton Vees standout Zac Dalpe scored his first goal in the NHL on New Year's Day in a 6-3 Carolina Hurricanes win over the New Jersey Devils.

Dalpe, a Paris, Ont. native who scored 63 points in 46 games with the Vees in the 2007-08 season before being drafted in the second round by Carolina, notched what proved to be the winning goal Saturday at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Fellow BCHL grad Travis Zajac also scored in the game for the Devils with his sixth of the year.

Dalpe has now played eight games with Carolina this season and has an assist to go along with his goal. In 23 games this year with the 'Canes American Hockey League affiliate Charlotte Checkers, Dalpe has recored 12 goals and 11 assists in 23 games.

During his lone BCHL campaign, Dalpe signed a scholarship to Ohio State University and after being drafted, he played two seasons for the Buckeyes, totalling 34 goals and 36 assists in 76 games.
