BCHL Saturday: Perfect 10 for Silverbacks

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks scored a perfect 10 on Saturday night.

With a 4-1 win over Trail on home ice Saturday night, the Silverbacks brought their winning streak to ten games. Mark Zengerle's goal and two assists led the team offensively, while Bryan Gillis turned aside 28 shots for the victory.

Sean Nugent scored the lone tally for the Smoke Eaters, who received a fine effort between the pipes from Marco Raimondo, the game's second star.

Elsewhere around the Interior Conference:

  • The Vernon Vipers kept pace with Salmon Arm, topping Quesnel 6-3 on the road. Connor and Kellen Jones combined on two Vipers goals, while Andrew Hammond picked up the win with a 23-save effort.
  • Third period goals from Ryan Viselli and Brad Reid and a two-point effort from Travis Ouellette led the Penticton Vees to a 3-0 win in Prince George.

Meanwhile, Powell River made it back-to-back home wins over Langley with a 4-1 win. Ryan Green assisted on three Kings tallies while Darcy Oakes potted a pair of goals. Carsen Chubak earned second star honours for a 25-save performance in net for Powell River, with Derek Grant the only Chief to beat him.

In other Coastal Conference action:

  • Chris Rawlings turned aside 37 shots to shutout the Nanaimo Clippers in a 2-0 Cowichan Valley win. Kevin Walrod and Chris Zaires scored for the Capitals, who recieved two assists from Spencer Fraipont.
  • Burnaby's Max Grassi scored twice and added two assists, but it wasn't enough in a 5-4 loss to Surrey. Brett Corcoran scored twice for the Eagles, who also received a two-point night from Brennan Strang.
  • Four first period goals in less than four minutes propelled Victoria to a 5-3 victory over Alberni Valley. Justin Courtnall scored twice, including the game winner for the Grizzlies.
