BCHL Saturday: Warriors sink Vipers at home

Few teams have found themselves on the winning end against the Vernon Vipers recently, but the Westside Warriors got the two points they needed against the Interior Conference leaders to keep their bid for a first-round bye alive.

Cam Reid and Justin Schultz led the way for the Warriors with two assists each while Grayson Downing, Quinn Gould, Chad Gehon and Jordan Gagne tallied the team's goals. Kyle Bigos replied with a first period power-play marker for Vernon. Kevin Jebson put forth a solid effort in net for Westside, stopping all but one of 30 Vipers shots.

In other Interior Conference action:

  • Andrew Pickering scored three goals and added an assist while Alex Goodship and Zach Davies each tallied three assists as the Prince George Spruce Kings stopped a recently rejuvenated Merritt Centennials squad by a 5-3 score.
  • Garrett Milan and Devon Krogh each scored to pace the Penticton Vees past Quesnel in a 2-1 game. Jordan Principalli replied late for the Mills, who were otherwise foiled by Vees netminder Sean Bonar.

Meanwhile, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks notched their third consecutive win on their Mainland Division road trip, squeeking past the Surrey Eagles 3-2. The victory was a come-from-behind effort for the Backs, who received theird period tallies from Keenan Desmet and Matt Grassi. Conference scoring king Mark Zengerle assisted all three Salmon Arm goals.

In other Coastal Conference action:

  • The Victoria Grizzlies received two goals and a helper from Dustin Mowrey in a 6-3 road win in Burnaby. Evan Pighin and Justin Courtnall also contributed for the Grizzlies with two points apiece, while Reid Edmondson score and assisted for the Express in a losing cause.
  • It was a legitimate Spencer attack in Cowichan Valley, where Capitals forward Spencer Edwards notched a hat trick and Mickey Spencer added a pair in a 6-1 victory over Alberni Valley.
