BCHL Tuesday: Grizz back on track

It appears that the Victoria Grizzlies have put the October blues behind them.

The Grizzlies, who snapped a six game losing streak on Halloween, looked more like their old selves in defeating the Cowichan Valley Capitals 6-3 on home ice Tuesday night.

Blueliner Lee Baldwin snapped a 3-3 tie early in the third period and put the Grizzlies ahead for good with his fourth goal of the season while Sam Higgins and Evan Pighin added insurance markers later in the frame.

Victoria netminder Alex Peck turned aside 22 shots in the win.

Alex Gellert, Mickey Spencer and Chris Zaires replied for the Capitals, while defenceman Zack Currie — who has established himself as one of the league's top two-way players in recent weeks — contributed a pair of assists.

Tuesday's game marked the first of a three-game set between the teams. The rivalry will continue Friday night in Cowichan Valley before returning to the Provincial capital on Saturday.

There are a pair of games on tap around the BC Hockey League on Wednesday, including:

  • Quesnel at Prince George, 7:00 PM
  • Alberni Valley at Trail, 7:30 PM
