Campbell to play for Regina this season

Coming off the most productive season in his four-year BCHL career, former Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Tanner Campbell has committed to the University of Regina Cougars for the 2018-19 season.

Campbell finished second in scoring on the Silverbacks last year with 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 point in 47 games. The Kelowna native totaled 109 points in 168 regular-season games in his junior career, split between the Chilliwack Chiefs, West Kelowna Warriors, Prince George Spruce Kings and the Silverbacks. He also added 10 points in 15 career playoff games.

Campbell was named BCHL Player of the Week in January of last season when he put up eight points in three Salmon Arm wins.

Cougars head coach Todd Johnson is excited about his team’s incoming talent, which also includes former Cowichan Valley Capital Tate Coughlin.

“I’m real excited about the group of guys we’ve got coming in,” Johnson said in a release on the Cougars website. “We’re looking forward to getting these guys on the ice with our returning players in just a couple of weeks.”

Last year’s Regina squad also included former Powell River King J.J. Coleshaw.

The Cougars compete in U Sports’ West Division against UBC, Alberta, Calgary, Lethbridge, Manitoba, Mount Royal and Saskatchewan.
