Carter scores twice in Victoria’s double OT win over Kings

Jimmy Carter continued to produce for the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday night, scoring twice — including the overtime winner — in a 4-3 home ice victory over the Powell River Kings.

The Kings went ahead early in the first period after Andrew Pettitt scored his first of two in the frame just 27 seconds after the opening faceoff. Brett Kolins evened the score three minutes later off a Derek Bacon feed, only for Pettitt to restore the Powell River advantage late in the frame.

The teams traded goals in the second, with a Robbie Bailey effort answered by an Alex Allan power-play marker on a late period Grizzlies power-play. Carter then went to work in the third, scoring his first of two with the man advantage at the 5:33 mark of the period. He then ended the game at the 1:24 mark of double overtime.

Carter finished with three points on the night, while blueliner Brad Pawlowski set up both goals scored by the 20-year old. Carter, Darcy Huisman and Jake Baker were named the game's three stars.

Richard Virtanen picked up the win with a 29-save performance, while Michael Garteig was kept busy by 37 Victoria shots in a losing effort.

The Grizzlies now embark on a week-long four-game road trip that begins in Penticton on Wednesday. The Kings, meanwhile, are idle until a Friday night visit to Alberni Valley.
